SPERM WHALE FIGHTING WHALE OF A FUNGAL INFECTION

CLEARWATER, Fla. (Wireless Flash) – A female pygmy sperm whale is fighting for her life because she has a whale of a fungal infection. “Glory” the whale – who was named in honor of the September 11 attacks – was found beached off of Clearwater, Florida, in October and has been living at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium ever since. Although marine officials has been trying to nurse her back to health, Glory is having a gut-wrenching time thanks to a potentially deadly stomach fungus caused by earlier antibiotic treatments. Currently, the 830-pound whale is on 24-hour-watch and being given antifungal medicine that is mashed up in her daily octopus rations. If Glory does make it, she may still die of loneliness. Sadly, her calf, “Justice,” unexpectedly died of pneumonia October 27.
