ANNOUNCING THE ‘P.U.-LITZER PRIZES’

SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash) – A media critic is exposing the stinky side of journalism with his picks for the “P.U.-litzer Prizes” for 2001. Syndicated columnist Norman Solomon hands out the dubious awards annually for the year’s “stinkiest media performances.” This year, TV preacher Jerry Falwell is one of the winners and gets a “P.U.-litzer” for an appearance on The 700 Club where he blamed “feminists, gays and lesbians” for bringing on the September 11 terrorist attacks. Other P.U.-litzer winners include... Newsweek magazine, which explained why George W. Bush doesn’t read many books: “He’s busy making history.” And political pundit Cokie Roberts gets a P.U.-litzer for an October appearance on Dave Letterman’s show where she confessed she’s a “sucker” for men in uniform and tends to believe everything they say.
