SCROOGE GETS A GAY SPIN IN ‘A QUEER CAROL’

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) – There’s a new version of A Christmas Carol that’s making designs for the gay community: Ebenezer Scrooge is a bitter interior designer and Tiny Tim is Bob Cratchit’s HIV positive lover. The adaptation, titled A Queer Carol, updates the classic Charles Dickens story to the gay community in modern-day New York. Some of the characters include a Marilyn Monroe look-alike playing the Ghost of Christmas Past, a buffed-out bodybuilder playing Jacob Marley and former Who’s The Boss cast member Danny Pintauro as both Tiny Tim and Scrooge in his youth. The 25-year-old Pintauro thinks the new play makes it easier to understand how Scrooge became a “bitter old queen” because it shows him losing his lover to AIDS and being rejected by his family for being gay. A Queer Carol runs through December 21 at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre.
