BUYER’S MARKET FOR BABY SITTERS

BUYER’S MARKET FOR BABY SITTERS

SCARSDALE, N.Y. (Wireless Flash) – This holiday season, the baby sitters may be crying more than the kids they’re baby-sitting. It seems the post-September 11 recession is causing a buyer’s market for baby sitters – which means parents are paying less for better child care. Baby-sitting expert Judy Lederman says that parents aren’t going out as much this season, and that has caused the average hourly price of a good baby sitter to drop from around $12 to $8 in big cities and from $5 to $3 in rural areas. As a result, there’s a glut of good baby sitters available – even for the biggest baby sitter night of the year: December 31. But Lederman says the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks have made more parents focused on having quality time with their kids, so many are organizing New Year’s Eve events for the whole family.
