RESEARCHER: ‘BABY JESUS WASN’T BORN IN A BARN’

LA MIRADA, Calif. (Wireless Flash) – A California bible scholar wants to go tell it on a mountain: Baby Jesus wasn’t born in a barn. Biola University professor Dr. Walter Russell says mangers like the one Jesus was born in were actually kept inside peasant homes to keep the animals safe at night and warm the home. Russell says the story of Jesus being born in a barn started when early Bible translators misinterpreted the passage about Joseph and Mary being told there was no room for them at the inn. He says the ancient Greek word for “inn” also means “guest room” and refers to the rooms on the second floor of a house. Russell figures Jesus was born on the ground floor of a peasant’s home – not the barn, as most people believe – because the upstairs rooms were full.
