ALKA-SELTZER TURNS 70 (DEC. 3)

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (Wireless Flash) – It’s a big day for Alka-Seltzer – 70 years ago today it first “plop-plopped” into stores. One of the folks bubbling over with enthusiasm for the big day is the 74- year-old voice of Alka-Seltzer icon Speedy Alka-Seltzer. Dick Beals has been doing the voice for Alka-Seltzer icon Speedy Alka-Seltzer for 49 years and says Speedy was not only one of TV’s first pitchmen, he was also a pioneer in stop-motion animation. Speedy has been retired as the company spokesman, but Beals still works for Alka-Seltzer, giving motivational speeches to employees to keep their careers from fizzling. However, Beals thinks Speedy will one day make a comeback because he’s “ageless, loveable, trustworthy and pronounces every vowel and consonant clearly.”
