ART EXHIBIT FEATURES ONLY THE FRAMES

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash) – If a picture is worth a thousand words, how much would the frame be worth? Art lovers will find out next month when the San Diego Museum of Art opens a show featuring nothing but empty picture frames made during the past century. Exhibit curator Bill Adair calls the display an “Affirmative Action” program for frames to get people to think about the time and labor that goes into making a frame. Adair says few people realize that a frame costs more to make than a painting, and up until the 1950’s people bought original works of art and threw away the original frames just to put contemporary frames around them. One piece on display that has taken on new meaning since September 11 is a frame purchased 10 years ago from a restaurant in the World Trade Center.
