THE ‘WAH-WA-WAHH’ OF CHARLIE BROWN

THE ‘WAH-WA-WAHH’ OF CHARLIE BROWN

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) – Good grief! Would you believe kids are more interested in knowing about the grown ups on the Peanuts cartoon specials than Snoopy or Charlie Brown. According to Lee Mendelson, who produced all the Peanuts animated specials, the No. 1 question kids ask him is: What makes the “wah-wa- wahh” noise that’s used for all the adult voices? Mendelson says the noise comes from a trombone and was used so they wouldn’t have to write parts for adult voices. The “wah-wa-wahh” noise has since been utilized in all aspects of pop culture, including The Simpsons, but Mendelson says he’s most pleased that it has inspired kids to become musicians – including jazz great Wynton Marsalis. This year, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving will air on November 22 and A Charlie Brown Christmas will be broadcast on December 6 – both on ABC.
