CAR SOCCER LATEST FAD WITH NEW ZEALANDERS
TIMARU, N.Z. (Wireless Flash) A bizarre new sport called car soccer is thrilling sports enthusiasts in New Zealand. Car soccer is played like regular soccer, except participants use old jalopies instead of legs to bump steel-covered tires into the goals. The cars are reinforced with roll bars and steel piping to protect the drivers and each team has three cars. Car soccer matches only last 20 minutes and according to organizer Dean Guthrie, the matches have to be short because the old rust buckets overheat so quickly. Guthrie also admits the junkers get pretty damaged after 20 minutes of side-swiping, but players wont retire a vehicle until it poops out for good.
