MONUMENT TO BE BUILT OUT OF SHOESTRINGS
MONUMENT TO BE BUILT OUT OF SHOESTRINGS
SANFORD, Fla. (Wireless Flash) An unemployed woman from Florida is trying to build a national monument on a shoestring budget literally. 33-year-old Michelle Donahue is asking patriotic Americans to send her their old shoestrings so she can turn the laces into a memorial to the people who died in the September 11 terrorist attacks. Michelle says shoestrings are representative of Americans freedom because theyre both taken for granted. The old shoestrings will be tied together, placed on spools and then hauled around the United States on public tour. Afterwards, Donahue plans to cast three bronze monuments from the laces that will be presented at the three attack sites next September 11. She needs at least a million shoelaces for her Operation Shoestring project to get off the ground but so far, shes only received two pairs. You can send your old shoestrings to Michelle at PO Box 1471, Geneva, FL 32732.
