TRICK OR TREATERS GET EGGS IN NEW ZEALAND

TIMARU, N.Z. (Wireless Flash) – Halloween is big business in the U.S. but that’s not exactly the case in New Zealand. According to one American woman who has been living in Timaru, New Zealand, for six years, New Zealanders don’t quite get Halloween right. Mari McIver says the few Kiwi kids who trick or treat don’t bother to wear costumes and some adults hand out hard-boiled eggs instead of candy. That could soon change: McIver says this year, New Zealand shops are carrying Halloween costumes for the first time. She’s hoping to scare up some more interest in the holiday this year and if her plan works, she’ll set her sights on other holidays because, in her words, “Kiwis need to celebrate EVERYTHING more.”
