‘GARBAGE PAIL KIDS’ CREATOR TRASHES POP MUSIC

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) – Remember Garbage Pail Kids trading cards from the early 1990s? Or the mid-1970s Wacky Packages cards, which spoofed consumer products? The creators of those cartoon cards are still trashing things with a new series that ridicules pop musicians like N-Sync and Christina Aguilera. They’re called Silly CDs and they featuring satirical CD covers of groups like “N-Stink,” “Pristina Eggulera,” and “Smelvis.” The men behind the pop parodies are Garbage Pail Kids guru John Pound and Wacky Packages creator Jay Lynch, who says his formula is simple: Find insulting words that rhyme – such as “No Trout” – or are close, like “Marilyn Moron.” The cards are geared towards kids, but the former underground artists say they couldn’t help but reference their hippie past by subversively calling the Dixie Chicks the “Nixon Chicks.”
