DR. DEMENTO CELEBRATES FIRST PUBLIC APPEARANCE

LONG BEACH, Calif. (Wireless Flash) – October 27 will be a demented day in Costa Mesa, California, because Dr. Demento will return to the spot where he made his first public appearance thirty years ago. The 60-year-old disc jockey, whose real name is Barry Hansen, says he appeared there for an event in 1971, and while he can’t recall what the event was for, he says he was mobbed by the crowds. Demento says back then the crowds clamored so fiercely to get autographs from him that it took a police escort to help him escape safely. After 30 years of making appearances as Dr. Demento, he says he’s grown accustomed to mobs like the one in Indianapolis where they were so pushy they knocked down the rickety stage he was standing on. This time around, Demento will be the grand marshall of a Halloween hearse procession at the Orange County Market Place.
