VENTURES SURFING WAVE OF PATRIOTISM

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) – The 1960s-era surf band The Ventures is the latest group to ride the wave of patriotism – and they’re doing it with vocals this time. The Ventures have just released a new patriotic ditty called “Be Strong America” that, unlike their instrumental hits “Walk, Don’t Run” and “Hawaii 5-0,” features lyrics. Guitarist Don Wilson isn’t new to the patriotic bandwagon. He started writing the song 10 years ago but didn’t finish until 1998 because he was stumped for “words that rhyme with America.” Insiders say the song sounds like the 5th Dimension meets R.E.M. and Wilson hopes it will help America be strong in a difficult time. The band is donating all royalties from the tune to the New York City Police and Fire Fighters Relief Funds.
