IT’S NATIONAL ONE-HIT WONDER DAY (SEPT. 25)

DENVER (Wireless Flash) – Media giant Clear Channel Communications recently released a list of songs its radio stations are suggested to pull from playlists due to the September 11 terrorist tragedy – and it may have an impact on National One-Hit Wonder Day, which takes place tomorrow (Sep. 25). Many of the songs on the banned list are one-hit wonder staples, including tunes like Barry McGuire’s “Eve of Destruction” and the movie theme to “St. Elmo’s Fire.” Other one-hit wonders that are Clear Channel no-nos include Zager and Evans’ “In the Year 2525” and “Spirit in the Sky” by Norman Greenbaum. Meanwhile, National One-Hit Wonder Day founder Steve Rosen says he’s been so affected by the terrorist attacks that the idea of holding a day to honor one-hit wonders now seems “trivial” to him. In his words, “Frankly, I couldn’t care less about One-Hit Wonder Day right now.”
