KEEP THE PEACE: EAT AFGHAN FOOD
BERKELEY, Calif. (Wireless Flash) Some Americans may be dealing with the Middle East crisis by patronizing Afghan restaurants. The owner of one Afghan eatery in ritzy La Jolla, California, says ever since the terrorist bombing, hes been getting lots of new customers. Haider Hussainy, who owns the Chopahn Afghan restaurant, says most newbies stick with kabobs but some are more adventurous and are trying exotic vittles like Qua-Bili, a lamb rice dish flavored with carrots and raisins and Burani, which combines pumpkin, tomato sauce and yogurt. The new interest in Afghan food also thrills Afghan-American activist Masud Basel, who believes people who try the cuisine will be less likely to commit hate crimes against Arab-Americans. Basel doesnt know how the Taliban will react when they find out Americans are eating more Afghan, food but he figures it can only have a positive effect.
