A KINDER, GENTLER PETA

A KINDER, GENTLER PETA

NORFOLK, Va. (Wireless Flash) – You won’t see People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals throwing paint at fur-wearing debutantes anytime soon – it seems the animal activist organization is forging a kinder, gentler image these days. Spokesman Bruce Friedrich says PETA is abandoning its controversial campaigning style in response to the U.S. terrorist attacks. He says past campaigns like “Jesus was a vegetarian” and “Drink beer instead of milk” got results by making people unsettled, but Americans are already so unsettled by the attacks that the tactic just doesn’t seem appropriate. Instead, PETA will be focusing on educating the public about vegetarian issues through pamphlets, lectures at college campuses and free samples of vegetarian fare.
