OREGON MAN BUILDING HIS DREAM HOME IN AN OLD AIRPLANE

HILLSBORO, Ore. (Wireless Flash) – What’s your idea of a dream home? For one Oregon man, it’s a Boeing 727 aircraft. 51-year-old electrical engineer Bruce Campbell is in the process of converting an old 727 into a studio apartment on a 10 acre parcel of land in the town of Hillsboro. So far, he’s spent $200,000 buying, moving and hollowing out the plane, which he expects to move into by next summer. Campbell plans to use the existing galley as his kitchen and lavatories as bathrooms, but still needs to add a shower. He also plans to turn the cockpit into what he calls a “nerd’s toybox” – a playroom consisting of all sorts of computer equipment. Campbell says he feels the steel aircraft is a much safer home than a typical wooden structure because it is rot-proof, fire-resistant and has a suspension system that will allow it to ride out earthquakes.
