ACCORDION PLAYERS SQUEEZE UP RESPECT FOR POLKA

CLEVELAND (Wireless Flash) – Polka musicians want to squeeze up a little respect – and they need 100 accordionists to do it. This Thursday (Sept. 13), 100 squeeze box players will squeeze into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, to raise funds for the National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame, which honors polka greats like Frankie Yankovic. Cleveland Polka Hall president Cecilia Dolgan says polka deserves the same respect as rock since it’s been around 100 years longer. She predicts that it’s only a matter of time before people take another poke at polka – especially since Counting Crows and Los Lobos are popularizing the accordion. That’s not all. Dolgan also predicts that polka dancing will soon become an Olympic event.
