BENJI WILL NOT BE CLONED

BENJI WILL NOT BE CLONED

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) – No matter how “ruff” it gets in the current search for a new Benji, the folks behind the canine casting call say they won’t resort to genetic cloning. That’s the word from Benji creator Joe Camp, who has been scouring animal shelters since August 12 looking for a new pooch to star in the film Benji Returns – The Promise of Christmas, which is due out in December 2002. He’s already seen thousands of mutts and none have fit the bill – but that doesn’t mean he’ll resort to science to clone another Benji. “Nope, no genetic cloning for Benji,” Camp says. He says the goal is to find the next Benji in an animal shelter and create awareness for pet adoptions. One pooch in Alabama came close to being cast, but it was 20 pounds overweight. Now, Camp has his eyes set on a Mississippi mutt who looks promising but has yet to be auditioned.
