BEER BUFFS RAISE STINK OVER ANIMAL POOP ALE

BUFFALO, N.Y. (Wireless Flash) – Home brewers are raising a stink about a Scottish beer that’s flavored with animal dung. Historians there recently brewed a batch of the beer using a 5000-year-old recipe that includes baked animal droppings. The brewers of the poopy pilsner claim it’s quite delicious, but master brewer Bill Owens – who opened America’s first microbrewery back in 1983 – isn’t so sure it’s a good idea. Owens says true beer buffs know that beer should only contain barley, hops, water and yeast – not fecal matter. However, Bill Metzger of the Brewing News says it’s possible the bowel movement beer was created with much trial and error and says many cultures use bodily fluids for beer. In fact, he says some Peruvians swear by a drink called “chicha,” which is basically fermented spit.
