EMERGENCY ROOMS DOING MORE HARM THAN GOOD

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) – Going to the emergency room could be leave you in worse shape than when you came in. That’s according to former ER doc Joel Cohen, whose new book ER: Enter at Your Own Risk (Horizon), claims that overcrowding and inexperienced doctors are doing more damage than good. Dr. Cohen says many ER docs aren’t treating the emergencies, but instead just prescribe drugs or give tests to make patients feel like they’re getting their money’s worth after sitting in the waiting room for hours on end He claims in some cases the “customer is always right” treatment is leading to the deaths of patients and almost every nurse or doctor has an ER horror story but no one ever does anything about it. Dr. Cohen says one way you can protect yourself is by asking to be treated by an experienced doctor, not a medical student.
