‘HAMBURGER HELPER’ HAND MAKES A COMEBACK

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Wireless Flash) – Yet another 1970s icon is about to make a comeback – the talking Hamburger Helper Hand. The Hand – which appeared in Hamburger Helper ads from 1977 to 1991 – returns today in a new series of commercials. Despite the 10-year absence, the Betty Crocker company claims the Hand is still one of TV’s most recognizable icons – even though it’s hard to portray the image of an animated talking hand. A former animator once told industry insiders, “If you try too hard to give him the slightest nuance of motion, he wobbles involuntarily. We call that the Drunken Puppet routine.”
