FIREMAN CREATES ‘HERBIE HYDRANT’ TO HELP SAVE KIDS

NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. (Wireless Flash) – A retired fireman from New York has come up with a gizmo to save kids from house fires: Herbie the Hydrant. It’s a hydrant-shaped clock and flashlight that kids keep by their bedside and grab onto when a fire breaks out. Once removed from it’s base, the device emits a siren and flashing lights which are supposed to help a fire fighter locate the child in a burning building. Inventor Mike Lucas says he was inspired to create the gizmo after a house fire in which two small children died before fire fighters could find them. The $50 gadget will be available in stores by November.
