LIBERACE OF MARIACHI MAKES IT TO THE GRAMMYS

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (Wireless Flash) – Mariachi bands are finally getting honored by the music industry. For the first time in history, a mariachi band is up for a Grammy – and it happens to be led by the man who’s known as “The Liberace of Mariachi.” Jose Hernandez is a fifth generation mariachi musician who leads the band Mariachi Sol de Mexico, which has been nominated for Best Ranchero Album at September’s Latin Grammy Awards. Hernandez’s band also has the honor of being the first mariachi band to play in Beijing, North Korea and Japan, all of which was done earlier this year. He says classically trained Korean and Chinese musicians were amazed at mariachi style where the musicians play and sang at the same time.
