CLUBBERS AT RISK FOR TUBERCULOSIS
CLUBBERS AT RISK FOR TUBERCULOSIS
LONDON (Wireless Flash) Rave-loving clubbers in London are in danger of being exposed to a new, more resistant strain of tuberculosis and it could happen in America, too. Health officials report at least one person has already died from club- contracted TB, which seems to be resistant to drug treatments. Physician Charles Simone says the sweaty, close quarters of nightclubs are the ideal place for the disease to spread, because its hot, people cough without covering their mouths and they sometimes share drinks. Clubbers are also more susceptible to infection because their immune systems are weak from cigarette smoke and booze-swilling. Dr. Simone says its entirely possible the club TB strain could break out in other cities with busy nightlife scenes such as New York, San Francisco and Chicago.
