BALTIMORE, Md. (Wireless Flash) – You’ve heard of bulletproof vests – what about bulletproof teeth? It seems dentists are using the same material found in bulletproof vests to stabilize loose teeth in oldsters. University of Maryland dental professor Dr. Howard Strassler says the strips of Kevlar and polyethylene help teeth withstand the multiple shocks of teeth chewing and grinding. However, Strassler can’t confirm whether the bulletproof material will make bullets bounce right off your teeth because, in his words, “I don’t have any patients who work in the circus.” The technique may soon come to a dentist near you: Dr. Strassler recently demonstrated his bulletproof tooth technique for dentists at the Academy of General Dentistry annual meeting.
