GERMAN HOME MOVIE TO BLAME FOR ‘AMERICAN PIE 2’ PIRATE HOAX

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) – The plot is thickening around rumors that American Pie 2 is being downloaded en masse on the internet. Last week the Reuters news agency claimed the film was being downloaded by thousands of internet users. Then Variety claimed what was really being downloaded was an X-rated French film with the same name – but it turns out that’s not right, either. The Anti-Piracy branch of the Motion Picture Association of America reports it hasn’t uncovered any pirated versions of the actual Hollywood production nor could it find the French skin flick mentioned by Reuters. What MPAA agents DID find was a non-infringing German home video entitled American Pie. A spokeswoman says the media frenzy over supposed pirated copies of American Pie may have started because one of the downloadable files for the first American Pie is titled “American Pie 2”
