TWINKIES’ POPULARITY SNOWBALLS IN ANTARCTICA

MC MURDO STATION, Antarctica (Wireless Flash) – Madonna may be big around the globe but in Antarctica, the biggest celebrity is Twinkie the Kid. Twenty scientists at McMurdo Station are so stir-crazy for Twinkie snack cakes that they formed a Twinkie Club that meets every Friday. It’s currently winter in Antarctica and the snack cake-obsessed scientists have a lot of time on their hands until the sun reappears in October. As a result, they’re doing everything from painting a giant Twinkie the Kid on the break room wall to shooting Twinkies out of an air compressor while singing “The Star Spangled Twinkie.” When the sun returns in October, the Twinkie-loving techies plan to take a “field trip” so they can eat Twinkies at the South Pole.
