CALIFORNIA WOMAN TO RE-ENACT AMELIA EARHART FLIGHT

SONOMA, Calif. (Wireless Flash) – Talk about deja-vu: A California woman plans to re-enact Amelia Earhart’s record-setting 1928 flight across America. In early September, Dr. Carlene Mendieta will set off from New York on a three-week journey in a restored vintage aircraft that’s the same make and model Earhart used. The 47-year-old periodontist will also dress like Earhart, replicate the famous flyer’s meals and stop in the same 23 towns Earhart stopped at along her journey. Dr. Mendieta also has the same amount of flying experience Earhart did at the time of her flight: under 300 flight hours, which is considered very little experience. She says she fully expects her vintage aircraft to break down along the trip, which is why she’ll have a “chaser plane,” loaded with spare parts and a mechanic, following close behind.
