THE DANGERS OF FLY-FISHING
DURHAM, N.C. (Wireless Flash) Fish arent the only victims of fly- fishing new research reveals fishing hobbyists are prone to all sorts of bone-crushing maladies. A Duke University Medical Center orthopedic surgeon polled 131 fly-fishing enthusiasts and discovered 69 percent suffer back pain, 25 percent have wrist, shoulder, or knee troubles and 18 percent experience elbow pain. Dr. Keith Berend who is an avid fly-fisherman himself attributes the aches and pains to the sports repetitive motions, but some fishing enthusiasts hurt themselves by loading their vests with too much gear. To prevent fly-fishing elbow and other problems, Dr. Berend recommends fishing fans stretch their muscles before they start casting.
