JUNIOR BROWN: ‘COUNTRY MUSIC IS A DIRTY WORD’

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) – Musician Junior Brown may wear a cowboy hat but don’t call him a country singer – he considers it an insult. Brown says, except for a few recordings, there hasn’t been any real country music in the last 30 years – including his own recordings. The 49-year-old Brown claims his music isn’t country but “freestyle American music” since he plays every kind of music from Jimi Hendrix to Hawaiian. Although Brown has been pigeon-holed as a country musician, he hopes that his upcoming tour with the Dave Matthews Band can get rock fans grinning at his picking. Brown’s latest CD, Mixed Bag, will hit stores July 31.
