JAPANESE WON’T EAT ‘POLK SALAD’

TOHATCHI, NM (Wireless Flash) – Swamp rock musician Tony Joe White – best known for his 1969 hit “Polk Salad Annie” – says Japanese people just won’t eat polk salad. The 57-year-old Louisiana native grew up on what’s been called “poor man’s spinach,” and says he was overjoyed to see a polk plant growing in front of his hotel while he toured Japan a few years ago. Unfortunately, the Japanese consider it to be just a weed – at least until White cut off a stalk and waived it around like a “hoo-doo” stick at one of his concerts. He says the Japanese fans went nuts for it. White has just released a new album – The Beginning – via his website: tonyjoewhite.net
