HOSPITAL ARCHITECTS GIVE POOR DIAGNOSIS TO ‘ER’ SET

HOUSTON (Wireless Flash) – The emergency room set of ER is getting a poor diagnosis from real-life hospital architects. Kirk Hamilton of Watkins Hamilton Ross Architects recently visited the TV show set and says the fictional ER is fraught with faults that would make a real hospital uncomfortable for visitors. For starters, he says the waiting area resembles a really bad bus station with hard plastic chairs, a graffiti-covered pay phone and a blaring TV. The architect also gives low marks to the dark stains on the ceiling, cracked tiles and broken windows. Although these details add to the drama on ER, Hamilton says in a real setting they would encourage patients’ stress and anxiety – which is something real-life hospital architects want to avoid.
