AMERICAN BUSINESS SLANG TAKING OVER THE WORLD

BOSTON (Wireless Flash) – America has launched a war of words on England and France with its business slang. According to a report in Harvard Management Communication Letter, Europeans are increasingly using American business buzz words – even when they have no clue what the expressions mean. So far, phrases like “talking off-line” – a one-on-one meeting – and “drool-proof solutions” – simple solutions – are awash in England. In fact, a recent survey found that one in five English business employees feels the need to use the Yankee jargon to earn their colleagues’ respect. However, the French Finance Ministry is trying to stop the American invasion by encouraging the use of French translations like jeune pousse – literally a young plant shoot – for “start- up” and courrier electronique for “e-mail.”
