NEW ZEALANDERS TAKING A SWING AT COMBINING GOLF WITH LACROSSE

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Wireless Flash) – Golfing buffs in New Zealand are taking a swing at a new sport that combines golf and lacrosse. The game is called “GolfCross,” and players use an oval-shaped golf ball to shoot at goals instead of holes. GolfCross creator Burton Silver claims the oval golf ball is more aerodynamic than the round kind and less inclined to slice or hook. So far, there are about three GolfCross courses in the world – all in New Zealand – but Silver says the beauty of the sport is that courses can be adapted to any open space, which he says is more environmentally friendly than regular golf. Silver has written down the rules of GolfCross in a new book, New Zealand GolfCross (Ten Speeed Press), which comes with its own oval golf ball.
