WHAT DOES ‘ZURNBARRIE’ MEAN?

EDINBURGH, Scotland (Wireless Flash) – If you know what the word “zurnbarrie” means, there’s an egghead in Scotland who’d love to hear from you. Edinburgh-based lexicographer Marace Dareau is finishing up the “Z” section of the Dictionary Of Older Scottish Tongue – but she’s stumped by the final “Z” word – “zurnbarrie.” Dareau says the word only appears once in all of the ancient Scottish texts she’s reviewed and not one researcher knows what zurnbarrie means. She thinks it may be a type of gun powder, but admits her guess is as good as any and hopes someone will be able to shed more light on the mysterious zurnbarrie.
