‘DR. LIVINGSTONE, I PRESUME’ INSPIRES AFRICAN JOURNEY

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Wireless Flash) – The phrase, ‘Dr. Livingstone, I presume?” is inspiring an African expedition. Starting June 15, several researchers will be walking 1000 miles across Africa to recreate the journey of journalist Henry M. Stanley. He’s the guy who, in 1871, went searching for explorer Dr. David Livingstone. Stanley traveled from Zanzibar to Lake Taganyika, Tanzania, before he found a very sick Livingstone in the village of Ujiji and uttered the now-famous phrase, “Dr. Livingstone, I presume?” Expedition participant Henry Rigali says Stanley was such a good explorer that the researchers will be able to walk in almost the exact steps as Stanley, who went on the trip for the New York Herald. However, the trip won’t be exactly like the original. Rigali says the crew doesn’t plan to suffer dysentery, hunger and malaria just for historical accuracy.
