SUSAN ANTON: ‘I ARGUED WITH SINATRA ... AND WON’

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) – Not everyone would risk arguing with Frank Sinatra, but singer Susan Anton once went toe-to-toe with the Chairman of the Board – and won. Anton says she met Sinatra at a Tokyo Music Festival in the early 1970s and says he was griping about the lack of good songwriters. She says she was so peeved by his remarks that she told him point-blank that she disagreed. Although folks around Sinatra were scared of what would happen next, Anton says he came over and the two debated the merits of John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan. Amazingly, she says by the end of the argument, Sinatra was agreeing with her and she jokes that may be what convinced him to record tunes by artists like Stevie Wonder and Billy Joel. Anton has just released her first CD in 15 years, a live recording called One Night.
