DO-IT-YOURSELF MOVIE MUSIC

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash) – The do-it-yourself movement is spreading into movie soundtracks thanks to a librarian in San Diego. Scott Paulson is the leader of the Teeny-Tiny Pit Orchestra, an ad-hoc musical group that turns movie audiences into music groups. Paulson hands out kazoos, bubble wrap, toy accordions, toy harps and whistles at movie theaters and the audience then supplies the soundtrack to silent Felix the Cat and Buster Keaton movies. Although his show was originally designed to make kids want to play music, Paulson says adults are even more gung-ho, sometimes even fighting over who gets to play the theremin. So far, the Teeny-Tiny Pit Orchestra hasn’t played outside of southern California. However, Paulson says the audience reaction has convinced him that “this is an idea worth stealing.”
