FANS OF CHRISTIAN METAL BAND STRYPER STILL FOLLOW BAND RELIGIOUSLY

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Wireless Flash) – Although the ’80s-era heavy metal Christian band Stryper broke up in 1992, fans are still following the band religiously. In fact, the group is the focus of its own convention, “Stryper Expo,” which will take place May 18 and 19 in Azuza, California. Group drummer Robert Sweet says he’s pleased fans are keeping the faith, but he’s even more happy Stryper has inspired other bands like Creed and P.O.D. Some metal fans considered Stryper wimpy because they threw Bibles into the audience instead of hotel room keys, but Sweet says heavy metal’s bad boy image is all an act. In fact, he claims the dirty little secret of heavy metal is that 95 percent of so-called wild rock stars are actually “really cool guys” – including Tommy Lee, who once told Sweet, “I really like your Jesus T-shirt.”
