FERRET FATALITIES BLAMED ON RECLINERS

STATE COLLEGE, PA (Wireless Flash) – Attention couch potatoes who also own ferrets: check your recliner before you recline. The American Ferret Association reports that recliners, sofa beds and rocking chairs can be death traps for the little critters. Ferrets are now the third most popular pet after dogs and cats, and veterinarian Sharon Marx says she’s seen her share of recliner-related incidents. Dr. Marx says she’s treated ferrets with broken legs and crushed chest cavities all because their owners were unaware the pets had scurried inside the chair before pushing back. Even more tragic was the ferret who died after being trapped inside a sofa bed for three days without food or water. To prevent ferret fatalities, Dr. Marx recommends owners become familiar with any crevices and small areas where ferrets could crawl.
