IT’S NATIONAL PRETZEL DAY (APR. 26)

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) – Today (Apr. 26) marks a twisted holiday for snack food junkies: it’s National Pretzel Day. Pretzel historians claim the snack was invented in 610 A.D. by an Italian monk who rolled leftover bread into a form representing the folded arms of a person in prayer. The pretzel was originally called “pretiolas” – or “little rewards” – and were given to young priests for their dedication. Other pretzel facts... Snack food psychologist Dr. Alan Hirsch claims pretzel lovers are good at journalism or firefighting but tend to get bored easily. The Post Office’s Citizen Stamp Advisory Committee once received a request from a man who thought the government should issue pretzel stamps with beer-flavored glue. Finally, men tend to prefer pretzel rings while women like the sticks.
