KIDS VOLUNTARILY GIVE UP TELEVISION

WAUCONDA, Ill. (Wireless Flash) – It sounds like something out of the X Files, but some elementary students are giving up television and are upset because they aren’t getting enough homework. That’s the case at the Robert Crown Elementary School in Wauconda, Illinois, where kids will voluntarily turn off the boob tube for National TV- Turnoff Week, which starts on Monday (Apr. 23). Instead of watching television, second graders in teacher Kelly Roberts’ class will spend the evening with their parents playing Monopoly, Scrabble and Yahtzee. Although most of Roberts’ students and their parents are game for the idea of giving up TV for a week, not everyone is thrilled. She says some students are actually unhappy that regular homework has been canceled.
