PAUL WILLIAMS: ‘I’VE ONLY JUST BEGUN’

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) – Composer Paul Williams will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame in June, but he claims he’s only just begun to feel like a songwriter. Williams – whose compositions include “The Love Boat Theme” – says he never took songwriting seriously until five years ago. He says in his early career he let himself get distracted by drugs, booze and “every game show and acting job [he] could get.” The now 60-year-old Williams quit writing songs 11 years ago, claiming he needed the time off to realize how much fun songwriting is. These days, he says he loves songwriting so much that he’s willing to write music with anyone with a good idea – including a waiter he recently met in a Nashville restaurant.
