‘HEMPCAR’ SMOKES OUT ALTERNATIVE FUEL OPTIONS

HAMPTON, Va. (Wireless Flash) – A car that runs entirely on hemp seed oil is giving new meaning to the word “pothole.” The so-called HempCar is the brainchild of a Virginia couple who plan to drive it across Canada and the U.S. this summer to promote the use of alternative fuels. HempCar owner Kellie Sigler says the Mercedes Benz station wagon will go through 400 gallons of hemp fuel along the 10,000-mile journey – at a cost of $30,000. Although the smell of the burning fuel may make some folks feel like they’re having a ’60s flashback, anti-drug advocates have no need to complain about the HempCar – hemp oil doesn’t contain any of the psychoactive ingredients found in marijuana. The HempCar will make its public debut next Thursday (Apr. 19) in Washington, D.C.
