HOW TO LIVE WITHOUT ELECTRICITY

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Wireless Flash) -- A Missouri woman who has lived without electricity for 10 years has a tip for Californians fed up with energy costs: start digging holes in your backyard. Anita Evangelista -- the author of How To Live Without Electricity And Like It (Loompanics) -- says cooking in a hole is a fantastic alternative to firing up your electric stove. Just line the hole with hot coals before tossing in your food -- and make sure the chow is coated in a thick layer of mud or foil. After four hours cooking in the pit, you'll have a nice hot meal. Evangelista also suggests insulating your walls by tacking up old blankets and using black plastic garbage cans and the sun to heat up your bath water.
