DON'T EXPECT TO SEE A GROUNDHOG ON FEBRUARY 2

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (Wireless Flash) -- Groundhog Day is Friday -- and although the critters are media darlings, it turns out they're pests everywhere else. According to animal control expert Sean Carruth, groundhogs may seem cuddly but they live up to their name by pigging out on anything in the garden. Even worse, the big rodents cause property damage by burrowing under decks and retaining walls and they can carry rabies and the plague. Although Friday is Groundhog Day, Carruth predicts most Americans won't see one -- much less its shadow -- because it's still too cold. However, starting in late-March, Carruth says he expects to receive plenty of calls from folks looking for a way to eliminate annoying groundhogs.
