2001: A POTHOLE ODYSSEY

AKRON, Ohio (Wireless Flash) -- 2001 is turning out to be a real pothole odyssey for drivers. Engineers at Goodyear tires report that the weather conditions this winter have created a bumper crop of potholes on American and Canadian roadways. Officials estimate there are hundreds of new potholes popping up in Milwaukee and Montreal alone -- and in Michigan there's been a 300 percent increase in insurance claims from drivers involved in pothole-related accidents. If you're worried about getting bumped by a pothole, experts say the best strategy is to keep your steering wheel straight when you enter the hole and avoid braking -- which could make you pop a tire.
