U.S. ARMY ENLISTS TREKKIES

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- The security of the United States may soon rest on the shoulders of sci-fi freaks. According to a report in the upcoming "Upside" magazine, the U.S. Army has enlisted the help of entertainment special effects artists to train U.S. soldiers. The computer experts are creating a real-life, three- dimensional holodeck like the one popularized in "Star Trek" movies, where soldiers can practice killing without any real bloodshed. So far, the army has funded $45 million to the Institute of Technologies in Southern California, which is creating the virtual reality war room.
